Home Decorating Ideas – Cheap Ways to Make Over Your Home
A well-appointed home is a reflection of your personality and unique style, but renovations can quickly become expensive. There are ways to have a designer look with less, just use your imagination and a little creativity. Here are some of my favorite interior decorating ideas, inexpensive ways to freshen up a room, and simple tips to help you complete your interior design project.
All rooms are blank decoration canvases until you add decorations. A room can have an obvious function, such as a bathroom or kitchen, but until you add accents, it lacks personality. Here are a few ways to expand your decorating cash with accents:
Bold or bright accents. Using something bold in color or design will allow you to use fewer accents in the room. These can be found at most dollar stores and discount stores. The visual weight of these items will fill the room more than many accessories that blend in with the color of the room. This theory applies to any room, from the kitchen to the bathroom, from the living room to the bedroom.
Functional items as decoration. The easiest way to add personality to a room is to make the most of the items you use every day. All the fruit you buy to stay healthy? Place it in a bowl on the counter or in the middle of the kitchen table and it becomes a decorative piece. Towels you use in the bathroom or kitchen? Choose a color that matches your interior, stack them next to the bath or hang them above the stove and they become a decorative color accent. Use those hidden placemats, napkins and napkin rings as centerpieces to add color to your table and skip the flower vases. The key is to get the most out of what you already have or will use.
A new application for sheets. A quick and cheap solution for a gloomy room is to combine curtains and decorative cushions for a harmonious and pleasant look. To do this without paying a high price is to use sheets. With a little sewing you can create matching curtains and decorative cushions for a professional interior look.
Make your own wall decoration. A large wall mural can cost a fortune, so why not save money by doing it yourself? For just a piece of poster board, a little paint and a poster frame, you have a large, one-of-a-kind print that will serve as an eye-catcher in any room. You don’t even need artistic talent. One way to do this is to paint one of your main colors on the poster board, then using painter’s tape to mark the squares in a random pattern, then paint those squares with your other accent color. When you remove the tape, you have your own geometric design. Another method is to draw large circles over the poster board with a black marker, then fill in the empty areas with the color of your choice to draw the pattern.
Small changes, big results. Sometimes all you need is a small change to see big results. An example is painting a wall of a room in one color. This is a quick way to add color without having to repaint the entire room. Sometimes simply rearranging furniture can give you a new perspective on a room. Take out some parts and bring in others from other rooms until you’re happy with the result. Never underestimate the impact the smallest change can have.
Now that you have some home decor ideas, inexpensive accent ideas, and new ways to use your sheets, what rooms are you trying them out in?
